I Fought for My Country - 06/24/2020

For the commemoration of the Korean War's 70th anniversary, a special program discovers the unsung hero of the brutal war. Kim Young-ok, of Korean-American heritage, is a decorated officer who fought World War II. When he heard that the war broke on his motherland, he re-enlisted the army and got deployed to the Korean Peninsula. Despite the harsh racial discrimination, he became the first POC battalion commander because of his excellence in strategy and tactics. He successfully advanced the frontline to the north while getting a lot of injuries that require 40 surgeries. He also protected the war orphans and guided the children to safe places. The panels discuss the meaning of the Korean War in modern history, discover unpraised heroes like Kim, and acknowledge Kim's heroism from Kim's acquaintance's testimonies.
